ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 400,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.

We are looking to hire an Accounting Technician, to join our Finance Department.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Under general supervision, the Accounting Technician supports the accounting department in the preparation, processing, and maintenance of financial records. This position ensures the integrity of financial transactions as well as compliance with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position supports senior level accounting staff by preparing journal entries, reconciliations, invoices, and deposits and by completing other related administrative activities and accounting duties as assigned.

  • Works with the Financial Controller to ensure compliance with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Nevada Revised Statutes, internal controls, and other pertinent policies and regulations.
  • Prepares various general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries as part of the monthly financial close process.
  • Prepares weekly bank deposits from non-water revenue sources and records associated journal entries.
  • Performs daily counts and cash deposits from water revenue sources and prepares daily bank deposits.
  • Prepares accounts receivable invoices as needed.
  • Processes weekly customer refund check batches.
  • Processes employee credit card transactions, compiles supporting documentation, and records associated journal entries.
  • Prepares wire payments for debt, payroll, and accounts payable functions.
  • Prepares cash flow documentation and projections.
  • Assists in the preparation for the annual financial statement audit.
  • Provides back up administrative and accounting support for all accounting positions as might be required from time-to-time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the minimum requirements is:

Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience in a business environment.
Education & Training: A high school diploma or equivalent and related college level course work or Associate’s Degree is preferred.

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking English.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid Nevada (or California – depending on state of residency) Driver License at time of hire and continuing thereafter and ability to maintain insurability under TMWA’s vehicle insurance policy.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation during hire and periodically thereafter during employment.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position and employment is contingent upon the results of drug and/or alcohol testing which includes screening for marijuana. The presence of marijuana or other screened for substances on any employment related substance test may result in a refusal to hire or termination of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

Generally accepted accounting principles, regulatory standards, and compliance requirements; Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and Outlook; databases and accounting software; modern troubleshooting methodologies and techniques to problem solve quickly and efficiently.

Skill/Ability to:

Demonstrate strong mathematical skills; demonstrate excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills; showcase a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; use a 10-key by touch; effectively manage and prioritize day-to-day tasks; demonstrate strong organization and time management skills as well as a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines; execute multiple projects and assignments without error; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; interact with employees and external parties in a professional manner; be punctual regard work hours established by TMWA; be mentally and physically alert during working hours.
