ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 475,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.
We are looking to hire an POWER GENERATION TECHNICIAN, to join our GENERATION Department.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a thorough understanding and be qualified to perform generator mechanical and electrical repair and diagnose both engine and electrical component problems as well as troubleshoot, diagnose and repair various diesel engines, governor controls, electronic control functions and knowledge of their standard operation and maintenance.
- Must have the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose as well as perform emergency repair of analog and digital controls, and read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Must be able to perform planned and corrective maintenance on Standby Diesel Generators.
- Personnel in this position will follow proper procedures for performing monthly Standby Diesel Generator tests and will be responsible for documenting all test data, maintenance and repairs in the computerized maintenance management system.
- Personnel working in this position must have knowledge of automatic transfer switches and control logic.
- Responsibilities for diesel generator units are limited to diesel controls and responsibility terminates at the transfer switch.
- Personnel working in this position are required to learn hydroelectric mechanical and emergency operation procedures and must be thoroughly familiar with TMWA’s electrical and mechanical LOTO and safety rules and procedures.
- Working in this position requires the ability to work independently with minimum daily supervision.
- Personnel working in this position are required to maintain a commitment to acquiring training and education, which will be paid with prior approval to keep current with emerging technologies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the minimum requirements is:
Experience: Two years of experience with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel generators is required.
Education & Training: An employee who has graduated and is certified by a diesel technical college or has certifications for receiving training in diesel controls and diesel power train engines.
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking English.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- A valid Nevada (or California – depending on state of residency) Driver License at time of hire and continuing thereafter and ability to maintain insurability under TMWA’s vehicle insurance policy.
- EGSA certification is preferred but not required.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation during hire and periodically thereafter during employment.
