JOB DESCRIPTION
FITTER APPRENTICE

An employee who installs and maintains water pipes, conduits, mains and accessories under the general direction of a Foreman/woman, Fitter, or other experienced and qualified personnel while training for a Journeyman classification. In order to gain experience for advancement, they may be required to work alone or under direct supervision on jobs for which they have been trained and instructed.

- State of Nevada Grade I Water Distribution certification will be required to progress to the one-year rate of pay.
- State of Nevada Grade II Water Distribution certification will be required to progress to the two-year rate of pay. 

PROGRESSION TO JOURNEYMAN
The employee's education and general qualifications must be such that they are considered capable of obtaining Journeyman status. Before obtaining Journeyman status, they must qualify by test and demonstrate an ability to handle tools and operate equipment, such as earth boring machines, all types of tapping machines, pipe locators, concrete saws, compressors and other equipment commonly used in the trade.

Start: $37.50
6 months: $38.72
1 year: $40.47
18 months: $41.67


WORKKEYS REQUIREMENT
Each applicant must pass the required WorkKeys Assessments with the following minimum scores to be accepted into an apprenticeship program. Any aptitude test required by TMWA will be used as one factor in the selection process. The apprentice must have attained the minimum required scores prior to the bid closing date.

Minimum WorkKeys Scores for the Pipe Fitter Apprenticeship Program:

Applied Math: 4
Graphic Literacy: 4
Workplace Documents: 4
Applied Technology: 4

JOB SHADOW
The applicant(s) identified as the qualified bidder will be required to job shadow (40 hours) a journeyworker in the field in which they desire to apprentice. This requirement may be waived if the individual currently works in the occupational group of the posted apprenticeship. The scheduling of the job shadow will generally be within seven (7) calendar days of the posted close date but can occur later due to scheduling or operational needs.
